One of the things I love to do on a regular basis is sing. I sing along with the radio in my car, I sing in the shower, and I sing while I work. I'm a decent singer, and it makes me feel good to use my gifts. So, to accompany myself i learned to play the guitar. My current guitar is a Taylor 420, a model that they only made for 3 years (1996-1998) The guitar has a solid spruce top, and solid maple back and sides for a really rich, warm tone that you just can't get from mahogany or rosewood. It's a great guitar for strumming and picking, although not quite as brite as the woods I previously mentioned. Still, I love it and it sounds great. My next purchase will be a Taylor 655ce, with a translucent blue finish. I played a 655 at a MARS music one time, and really loved the sound of this 12 string guitar! Combine the great sound with the tremendous look of the curly-maple back and sides, and this is one guitar few people would pass up. Now, if I can just save up enough money, it will be mine!
Update 6/7/04: Because I have the best wife in the world, I finally got my 655ce, with a translucent blue finish. As a bonus for waiting so patiently, the Taylor ce models are now equipped with the Expression System, which is one of the cleanest sounding pickup/preamp systems available for acoustic guitars. If you haven't heard one, I highly recommend hearing one as soon as you possibly can! |
