Through some really good luck, I was able to attain a 7.5 foot Meyer snowplow for my Jeep. When I got it, it was a simple up/down setup with the capability for left/right, but no actuator for the left right. Also, it had most recently been mounted on a Bronco, not a Jeep, which meant that I had to do some serious fabricating. Rather, Grandpa Vande Water would have to help me do some serious fabricating. So, we had to use the torch to remove some unwanted metal from the frame that holds the hydraulic system, and we had to figure out a way to mount the blade to the front of the vehicle. A quick check of the Meyer website showed drawings of a part that attached to the frame in front of and behind the front axle, with bars that passed beneath the front axle. It would limit ground clearance, but it looked like the only viable solution. After some good cutting with the torch, and heating some steel (graciously given to me by my soon-to-be father-in-law) we were able to get the entire setup mounted to the jeep. After a few plow jobs, I was able to purchase some left/right hydraulic cylinders to give me a full power setup. A few more plow jobs and I relpaced the electric motor, got some easy-connect lynch pins, and a rubber cover to keep the pesky weather out of the works of the hydraulic system. I've ended up with a reliable system for a fraction of the cost of a new plow. Now, if we just got more snow..... |
