Day 10

Saturday June 13, 1998

Saturday started out as a work day. Father John got us all organized and assigned to a job of the day. Jobs included sanding, painting, weeding, and making sure the music was playing and that everyone had an adequate supply of water. A lot was accomplished in a few hours. After lunch, half the group headed to the Flea Market in Gallup to complete their shopping while others simply rested, showered (with 2 showers and 23 people, shower time is at a premium) and did laundry. The highlight of the day came at five when we all headed out to Hardy and Julie Thompson's house for a meal of Navajo tacos and fun riding their horse Gummy Bear and playing a big game of baseball. This local couple was very kind to invite all of us to their home to see how the locals live and play. Hardy works at St. Mary's Mission and has been our supervisor while we have been here and has kept us all busy with various jobs. Pictured below are Hardy and Julie with their children Ryan, April, and Juliana. We also see Fr. John showing off his riding skills.
