Day 14
Wednesday June 17, 1998
We were on our way by 7:30am this morning with a
destination of Kansas City, MO in mind. It was about 650 miles
away and when Fr. John struck out on State highways instead of
the interstate we all thought that he was a bit crazy. We soon
found out that the roads across southeastern Colorado were
straight, the land was flat as the Kansas plains and there was
virtually no traffic. We enjoyed the scenery and the driving was
without the constant "Semi Truck" worries of the
Interstate. We saw many antelope grazing in the same fields as
the abundant cows. By 11:00am we were crossing the state line
from Colorado into Kansas and were soon back on Interstate 70
heading east. Numerous oil derricks dotted the landscape and we
even spotted a small herd of buffalo. Kansas claims that the
buffalo are making a comeback and are once again roaming the open
plains!! For more info on the buffalo follow the link below!

We ate lunch at Subway and continued eastward. We arrived in Kansas City at about 6:00pm and stayed in a hotel downtown! We all marvelled at how deserted downtown KC was. We ate our "Last Supper" together at "The Spaghetti Factory" and then returned to the hotel to share trip experiences with each other. A picture of O'Retha, (in foreground), and rest of the gang in the hotel lobby is below!
