Day 2
Friday June 5, 1998
Before leaving Oklahoma City we went to the memorial for the people who died in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. We arrived at 6 am and were the only ones there. It was a very moving experience comparable to visiting the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. It was unexpectedly peaceful for a Friday morning in the big city!

We drove on toward Tohatchi and by mid afternoon arrived at the historic site of Acoma Pueblo (Also called "SKY CITY"). It is an ancient site built high upon a Mesa. Below is a picture of it.

We had our first taste of fry bread and the Native American culture. Most of us hiked down to the base of the cliff using an ancient stone staircase.

We finally arrived in Tohatchi late Friday evening to find that they weren't actually expecting us until the 16th of June, which was our departure date. We gathered in the church for prayer after settling in the Tohatchi Youth Center, shown below.
