Day 3

Saturday June 6, 1998

Early this morning a truck from Denver, CO pulled into the churchyard, and we took this opportunity to jump right in and help. After the truck was unloaded, some of us left to sing at a wedding, and in turn, all were invited to a traditional Navajo wedding ceremony. We attended the reception at the bride's home, and waited four hours for the groom to arrive with the dowry (a horse). When all were present, the ceremony began with the exchange of gifts between families. The event was filled with bickering between the families. After returning from the wedding, we went to the Gallup Flea Market, where many purchases were made. We returned to Tohatchi after a brief trip to McDonald's. Our day was complete!!
